ANALYS: Hur ska kommande generationer kunna vända hatet?
För snart ett år sedan när jag och fotograf Felix Larnö landade i Israel, efter Hamas attack längs gränsen till Israel, kändes allt lamslaget. Hela den israeliska befolkning befann sig i en blandning av chock, sorg och ilska. Känslorna vändes mot Hamas såklart men även mot den israeliska militären som inte lyckades avvärja attacken av raketer, fallskärmshoppare och stormade staket. Nära 1200 israeler dog och över 200 togs som gisslan, såväl militärer som civila. Dagen efter attacken inledde Israel kriget mot Hamas i Gaza. Nu har runt 42 000 personer dödats på den smala landremsan, såväl Hamaskrigare som civila. Många av dem barn. Dessutom hänger hotet över hela regionen och världen om att det kan bli en sammandrabbning mellan Israel och Iran. Ingenstans i världen möter man så många som säger att de vill leva i fred som i Israel och Palestina. Ändå blir det bara mer krig. Finns det någon vinnare? Finns det någon vinnare under det här mörka året? Hamas å sin sida, säger att målet för deras attack var att föra upp Palestinafrågan på världsordningen. Det lyckades de med. För Hamas är det rimligen också en vinst att Israel har fått mycket kritik för misstänkta krigsbrott, kritik för bosättningar på Västbanken och att den internationella krigsdomstolen ansökt om arresteringsorder av Benjamin Netanyahu även om inga beslut tagits. Israel säger å sin sida att de slåss för sin överlevnad och de har med militära krafter skakat såväl Hamas som Hizbollah långt ner i tunnlarna och ledarskapet. De har lyckats vända bort frågan från Palestina och i stället satt ljuset på Iran, ett land där västvärlden och delar av arabvärlden är mer enade. Så kortsiktigt har kanske båda sidor lyckats med några av sina propagandaslagord. Men långsiktigt?
