Ikhlaas, 10: "Jag är rädd för att bli dödad i sömnen"
Hjälporganisationerna har länge krävt att vapnen ska tystna, för att kunna distribuera livsmedel till krigsdrabbade Gaza. Rädda barnens ansvarige på plats har varit inne i Gaza i drygt två veckor, och han beskriver hjälparbetarnas vanmakt.
– Det finns ingen säker zon eller något säkert område i Gaza. Jag har sett det med egna ögon, säger Jason Lee. Enligt Jason Lee är det både omöjligt och olämpligt att göra plats för 1,9 miljoner människor där. – Al-Mawasi, som civila uppmanades att ta sig till är en strandremsa. Det finns inte nog med toaletter, inga sanitära inrättningar, säger han och fortsätter: – Jag är rädd att ju längre konflikten håller på, ju längre civilbefolkningen får lida, desto svårare är det för oss att hålla människor vid liv, och för barnen att återhämta sig och bygga upp sina liv igen, så att de får en framtid. Ett barn dödas var tionde minut Jason Lees oro delas av barnen som tvingats fly till tältlägret i Rafah. – Många barn dör i sömnen, jag är rädd att det ska hända mig. Jag vill förverkliga mina drömmar. Jag vill bli läkare, men vi har ingen skola längre, säger 10-åriga Ikhlaas Hanoon.
I takt med att den civila infrastrukturen raseras i Gaza, anses också dödssiffrorna bli mer opålitliga. Sist Rädda barnen gjorde en uppskattning dödades ett barn var tionde minut, och ett skadade var femte.
– Jag har upplevt många krig. Kriget 2014, 2021 och så 2023. Vad är det här? Var finns familjerna som bara lever sina liv som vanligt? De finns inte, säger 14-åriga internflyktingen Hend Al-doj. 85 procent av befolkningen i Gaza, 1,9 miljoner människor är på flykt. Totalt bor 2,3 miljoner människor i Gaza. Hälften av dem, 1,1 miljon, är barn.
