Spaniens kung, Felipe, drottning Letizia och premiärminister Pedro Sanchez besökte under söndagen staden Paiporta i Valencia, ett område som drabbats värst av översvämningskatastrofen. Det välkomnades dock inte av folkmassorna som hade samlats runt delegationens ankomst och skanderade ”mördare, mördare”. Kungaparet, som var omringad av säkerhetsvakter och polis, fick lera och andra föremål kastade mot sig av arga spanjorer. Det visar bilder från platsen. Drottning Letizia och premiärminister Pedro Sánchez avbröt besöket, medan kung Felipe VI och Valencias regionledare Carlos Mazón försökte lugna ner situationen. På bilder syns en lerig Kung Felipe när han försöker prata med upprörda invånare.

– Alla visste det här, men ändå gjorde ni inget!, säger en upprörd ung man som står och pratar med kungen på nära håll. Nya varningar utfärdade Totalt har 213 människor dött i översvämningarna i landet. Regeringen har fått hård kritik för hanteringen av katastrofen, bland andra för att de inte varnade invånare i tid. Varningen ska ha skickats när översvämningen redan hade börjat vilket bidrog till att många inte kunde evakueras. Räddnings- och saneringsarbetet är i full gång, och många är fortfarande saknade. Nya varningar för kraftiga regn har utfärdats, bland andra en röd varning, den högsta nivån, i provinsen Almería i östra Andalusien.

Spaniens meteorologiska myndighet, AEMET, uppmanar befolkningen i området Sol y Guadalhorce att vidta försiktighetsåtgärder och följa myndigheternas råd. Vidare rekommenderas man att undvika onödiga resor, så länge en röd varning är utfärdad. – Det är den högsta varningen och innebär per definition att det är fara för liv, säger TV4:s meteorolog Peter Kondrup. I översvämningsdrabbade Valencia har en orange varning utfärdats. Även där väntas upp emot 120 millimeter regn komma på mindre än tolv timmar. – Det kommer ett lågtryck från Sicilien som rör sig västerut, säger Peter Kondrup om orsaken bakom den senaste vädervarningen för Valencia. Landslaget flyger hem Det svenska herrlandslaget har befunnit sig i Marbella i veckan för att träna inför de avgörande i Nations League-matcherna mot Slovakien och Azerbajdzjan. Under tisdagskvällen meddelade landslagschefen Stefan Pettersson att man kommer att flyga hem tidigare än planerat. – På grund av risken att torsdagens träning inte kommer kunna genomföras här i Marbella väljer vi att åka hem på förmiddagen istället för eftermiddagen och genomföra det passet på Stockholm Stadion, säger han i ett uttalande.

Regionens politiske ledare, Carlos Manzón, har fått skarp kritik för att han varit svårtillgänglig under katastrofen. Han hålls ansvarig för att myndigheterna inte skickade ut varningar i tid. Mazón anklagas också för att ha agerat för sent och med för liten kraft när katastrofen väl var ett faktum. Den 29 oktober, dagen då katastrofen började, passade han på att ta en långlunch fram till 18 på kvällen. Ord som ”avgå” och ”mördare” ekar mellan husen, rapporterar El Mundo. Fler än 200 personer dog i översvämningarna i Spanien förra veckan. Tusentals hem förstördes av vatten- och lermassor som vällde fram. Många gator och hus är fortfarande täckta av lera.

Medan sökandet efter försvunna personer fortgår i översvämningsdrabbade Valencia, varnar nu spanska myndigheter för att översvämningarna kan leda till en miljökatastrof.  Hälften av reningsverken för avloppsvatten är ur bruk i provinsen – utan reningsverken riskerar avloppsvatten från städerna att släppas ut i floderna Júcar och Turia, för att sedan sprida sig i resten av ekosystemet. Totalt ska 107 reningsverk vara ur drift enligt uppgifter från lokala myndigheter till miljödepartementet.   Särskild oro finns för naturreservatet Albufera de València. En lagun som kommit att bli en symbol för biologisk mångfald i Spanien. Reservat är ungefär 22 000 hektar stort.  ”Bokstavligen begravda” Spaniens miljöminister Hugo Morán har i kongressen förklarat att frågan om sanitet är den som står högst på agendan när hans departement analyserar konsekvenserna för vattenförvaltningen i området. Reningsverken är mycket hårdare drabbade än till exempel vattenreservoarer, eftersom de i större utsträckning är belagda nedströms.  Många av reningsverken är ”bokstavligen begravda”, ska ministern ha sagt under onsdagen rapporterar El País.   En vecka efter katastrofen är problemet inte längre att förse folket med vatten, utan snarare hanteringen av de miljontals liter avloppsvatten som släpps ut i floderna. Hugo Morán menar att tillgången till vatten i bostäder praktiskt taget är återställd. Lokala myndigheter uppmanar dock fortsatt befolkningen att koka vattnet, som kan vara lite grumligt.  Ska sätta in en armé av rörmokare Ännu går det inte säga något om vad kostnaderna för skadorna på reningsverken uppgår till.  – Det finns anläggningar som vi inte ens har kunnat gå in i än. De är under leran, säger en representant ur Valencias provinsråd till El País.   Utsläppen i floderna bedöms som oundvikliga, och kan komma att pågå en lång tid framöver. Även industriernas reningsverk är överbelastade, och utsläpp från industrierna riskerar också att hamna i floderna och sprida sig vidare i naturen.  I städerna skapar leran problem för avrinningssystemen. Leran som hamnar i dagvattenbrunnar stelnar under jord, och förhindrar vatten från att rinna undan.   Valencia planerar nu att sätta in en armé av rörmokare från hela Spanien för att åtgärda läckor i rör ovan mark. Rören ska ha skadats när föremål som bilar och annan bråte förts fram längs med gatorna av vattenmassorna.

En röd vädervarning, för extrema skyfall, har skickats till mobiltelefoner i Katalonien. Barcelona är en av städerna som omfattas av den nya vädervarningen och i hela regionen har tåg ställts in och motorvägar stängts. Flera flyg vid flygplatsen El Prat i Barcelona har dessutom dirigerats om. Väderbyrån Aemet varnar i meddelandet som skickats ut till befolkningen i storstadens södra delar för ”extrem och ihållande nederbörd”. Framförallt uppmanas invånarna att undvika torra raviner och kanaler. Varnar för sjukdomar I grannregionen Valencia har situationen beskrivits som ett krigsscenario. Enligt uppgifter under söndagen befaras minst 217 personer ha mist livet i översvämningarna. Volontärer och soldater fortsätter uppröjningsarbetet i staden, där man befarar att sjukdomar kan spridas i vattnet och leran som täcker stadens gator. – När vattnet har legat här i många timmar, kan det bildas virus och bakterier på grund av döda djur med mera, säger Pablo Iarta, en 21-årig student som ställt upp som volontär. – Så det är bäst att vidta åtgärder som att bära handskar och mask, för att undvika att röra vid leran, fortsätter han.

Irish 1500m record holder Andrew Corscoran crashed the party to take out Zatopek:10 in 27:56.37, ahead of Jack Rayner who took out his third consecutive 10000m National Championship in 27.57.87 ahead of Pat Tiernan who lead the tempo for most of the race. Lauren Ryan won her first 10000m National Championship in a race where the pace stemmed and flowed several times to win ahead of Holly Campbell and the pre-race favourite Rose Davies. Matt Ramsden outlasted Jessie Hunt and Cameron Myers in the 3000m for a photo finish win in 8:00.20. Maudie Skyring announced herself to win the Open 3000m in 8:55.39, pulling away from Irish runner Jodie McCann and Box Hill’s Stella Radford.
