Närmare än två ramträffar kom inte nye managern Mauricio Pochettinos lag. Nicolas Jackson träffade stolpen i inledningen av matchen och Raheem Sterling drog en frispark i kryssribban och ned på mållinjen i andra halvlek. Returen förpassades i mål av Levi Colwill, men han blåstes mycket riktigt av för offside. Även i övrigt skapade Londonlaget en rad chanser, men lyckades inte få bollen i mål bakom hemmamålvakten Neto. I stället var det Bournemouth som pressade på för ett segermål i slutet. Samtidigt som segrarna uteblir är Chelsea dessutom hårt skadedrabbat och saknade tolv spelare – däribland rekordförvärvet Moises Caicedo som Londonklubben betalade motsvarande 1,5 miljarder kronor till Brighton för. Chelsea slutade bara på tolfte plats förra säsongen under nya ägarkonsortiet med amerikanske affärsmannen Todd Boehly i spetsen. Nu är läget ännu sämre och Chelsea ligger på 14:e plats, en placering ovanför Bournemouth som fortfarande är segerlöst och har tre kryss hittills.
