Den tidigare Liverpool-kaptenen Jordan Henderson försvarar sin kontroversiella flytt till saudiarabiska Al Ettifaq i en intervju med The Athletic. 33-åringen har gjort sig känd som en stark förespråkare för hbtqi-rättigheter och har blivit ifrågasatt för sin flytt till ett land där homosexualitet anses vara kriminellt. – Jag tror verkligen att det är en bra sak att jag spelar i Saudiarabien. […] De vet vilka kampanjer jag har gjort och de har inte sagt något om det. De har aldrig sagt ”du får göra det här, men inte det här”. Han säger sig även ha blivit ”väldigt sårad” av kritiken mot honom och att vissa inom hbtqi-rörelsen sagt att han vänt dem ryggen.

Kan någon hota Manchester City?

Manchester City har tagit hem Premier League tre säsonger i följd och är storfavorit även nu. Förra säsongen var Arsenal länge med och utmanade. Mikel Artetas gäng har storsatsat till den här säsongen med värvningar som tyske landslagsmannen Kai Havertz, miljardmannen Declan Rice och Ajaxbacken Jurriën Timber.

En annan utmanare är Newcastle med sin rika ägare, den statliga saudiska investeringsfonden, som med tillsättningen av tränaren Eddie Howe lyfte rejält i fjol.

Även trean från förra säsongen Manchester United har kryddat med några spännande värvningar och lär finnas med i toppen.

Hur påverkas Premier League av Saudisatsningen?

Få sportintresserade har nog missat att Saudiarabien flyttat fram sin position i fotbollens värld, och denna sommar har präglats av flera stora övergångar från England till den saudiska ligan. Exempel på det är Chelseatrion Édouard Mendy (al-Ahli), Kalidou Koulibaly (al-Hilal) och N'Golo Kante (al-Ittihad), Liverpoolkaptenen Jordan Henderson (al-Ettifaq) och Manchester Citys Riyad Mahrez (al-Ahli).

Premier Leagues vd Richard Masters har dock sagt att han inte är särskilt oroad över Saudiarabiens nya inflytande på världsfotbollen. Det då intresset är betydligt större för Premier League och att ligan fortsätter att växa internationellt, enligt Masters.

Vilka är de största övergångarna?

Arsenal har gjort klart med engelske landslagsmittfältaren Declan Rice från West Ham för omkring 1,4 miljarder kronor – vilket gör honom till den dyraste engelsmannen genom tiderna.

Den argentinske världsmästaren Alexis Mac Allister lämnat Brighton för Liverpool. Danske superlöftet Rasmus Højlund flyttade från Atalanta till Manchester United och den 21-årige kroatiske försvararen Josko Gvardiol köptes loss av Manchester City från Leipzig för omkring en miljard kronor.

Får Greenwood spela trots anklagelserna?

Manchester Uniteds Mason Greenwood har inte fått träna eller spela match sedan hans flickvän anklagade honom för flera grova brott i januari 2022. På hennes sociala medier publicerades bilder och ljudklipp med blåmärken, blod och hot som Greenwood ska ha gjort sig skyldig till.

Greenwood greps och utreddes för misshandel och våldtäkt, en utredning som lades ner i februari i år. Men United har fortfarande inte kommit med något beslut om han får spela den här säsongen.

Kan Isak få ordning på skadorna?

Alexander Isak stod förra säsongen för tio mål på 22 ligamatcher för sitt Newcastle. Det innebär att Isak kommer få testa på spel i Champions League den här säsongen. Den största frågan är om 23-åringen kan bli kvitt de skador som gjorde att han missade hela 16 matcher. Väl på plan är imponerar svensken, men hur många framträdanden gör han?

En annan fråga inför säsongen är om Tottenhams Dejan Kulusevski får en pånyttfödelse under nye tränaren Ange Postecoglou.

Landslagets kapten Victor Nilsson Lindelöf går in i sin sjunde säsong i Manchester United. Svensken lär dock inte vara ordinarie i tränare Erik ten Hags bygge utan väntas vara en rotationsspelare.

Övriga svenskar: Robin Olsen (Aston Villa), Hjalmar Ekdal (Burnley), Emil Krafth (Newcastle), Yasin Ayari (Brighton) och Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest).

Hur ser de nya reglerna ut?

Bland annat så kommer målvakter som "inte visar respekt" mot motståndaren vid en straffspark att straffas. Kändast för detta är kanske främst Aston Villas argentinske målvakt Emiliano Martínez som ofta häcklar motståndarna inför straffar, som mot Frankrike under straffläggningen i VM-finalen 2022.

Precis som under VM i Qatar så kan man också räkna med betydligt längre tilläggstid nu än tidigare då målfiranden, byten och skadeuppehåll alla ska resultera i att domaren adderar mer tid.

Med de nya direktiven kan också fler tränare få syna det gula eller röda kortet om de går allt för hårt åt domarteamet.
