‘Preston North Ended!’ Chelsea FanCast #1097

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Dean Mears to look back at Chelsea's 4-0 win in the FA Cup against Preston North End and ahead to Tuesday's Carabao Cup semi-final against Middlesbrough. In part one we discuss Chelsea's poor first half against Preston North End. Were Chelsea complacent, taking Preston lightly? Preston did a good job with 3 at the back and 5 out of possession and kept Chelsea going side to side and at arm’s length. And why do players such as Moises, Sterling and Enzo not impose themselves on the game or take it by the scruff of the neck?In part two Poch gave a much needed and effective half-time hairdryer to the players. As a consequence, Chelsea pushed Preston back, Palmer played higher up the pitch and they were more aggressive with more intent. Broja scored a proper strikers goal and his confidence appeared to come back, as did Chelsea's while Preston's dissipated. Goals from Silva, Sterling and Emzo put the game to bed. All in all it was a poor first half and an excellent second. Chelsea dispatched a determined championship side without too much fuss; kept the winning streak going; gave minutes to Gilchrist, Washington and Golding and are into the next round. Job done.In part three we preview the Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday away to Middlesbrough for the first leg. We start with JK's summary of Poch's presser and Chidge reveals his team selection.Boro look like similar opposition to Preston and have had an easy ride to the semi final and have poor recent form, but there is history in this fixture and they will be bang up for it. We recall the play off matches from 1988, the FA and League Cup victories of 1997 and 1998, Rafa Benitez meltdown after the 2013 FA Cup win and Bruce Buck's comments winding up Boro before the cup match of 2022.We discuss that it would be nice to hump Boro and make the second leg a formality but…suspect it might be tighter than it should be. Also the opportunity for Poch to get the ‘not won a trophy in England’ off his back woould be great for him and the team's development. We wrap up with our predictions and 'They Played For Both'.     Hosted on Acast. Alarm Bells At Chelsea, The Myth Of Player Fatigue & Front Foot Football

Is Pochettino the man to fix the problems at Chelsea? Are we focussing too much on the idea that players are fatigued? Why are we seeing sides really having a go at the traditional ‘top teams’ this season? Gary, Alan and Micah also discuss the results of a poll about the use of VAR, after more than 100,000 fans voted. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #1094

Stamford Chidge and Jonathan Kydd are joined by Martin Wickham to look back at the win against Palace, the defeat to Wolves and ahead to Saturday's match against Luton. In part one we look back at Wednesday night's win against Palace. We ask is it all about the win? Gusto was superb; Gallagher great; Nkunku class; Mudryk improving; Madueke, Lavia and Gilchrist had good cameos – does this offer a glimmer of hope? And is it time to cut Jackson some slack? We discuss our defensive concerns and whether Chelsea are a talented bunch of individuals but not a team, all while our home form is improving. In part two we look back at the defeat to Wolves: a case of same shit different day – the better team but hopeless up front. We discuss Sterling’s criminal miss, Nkunku’s debut, the team's poor discipline and Chelsea's dreadful away form.In part three we look ahead to Saturday's match against Luton. JK reports on Pochettino's press conference and Chidge reveals his team selection. Luton will be a tough nut to crack away and Ross Barkley will have something to prove against his old team. With our poor away form will Chelsea achieve another unwelcome record? We discuss how will it go and give our predictions and wrap up with 'They Played for Both'. Hosted on Acast. Chelsea FanCast Preview Show #1093

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Mark Meehan to look back at the Carabao Cup quarter final against Newcastle and ahead to the Christmas Eve match against Wolves. In part one we discuss a potentially massive night at the Bridge last Tuesday where Chelsea beat Newcastle on penalties to go through to the Carabao Cup semi-final. In the process we saw a team bond with each other and the supporters as the stadium was literally bouncing with delight. In addition we discuss the great penalties & penalty save! Mudryk, the enigma wrapped around an enigma. Playing full backs works, please try it again! Gallagher – the glue that binds it together? And ask is it early days for Nkunku? In part two we look ahead to the Wolves match on Sunday. We have JK’s review of the Presser and pick up on the news that the ESL rears its ugly head again and what is the Chelsea Supporters' Trust planning on Sunday with their Christmas Eve football can #GetStuffed message? In Chidge’s team selection we ponder whether Poch will pick proper full backs? Will Nkunku to start? Is Enzo out? Will we play in a 4:2:3:1 formation? We look at Chelsea and Wolves form and ask if Chelsea go in to this match with momentum and can they go on a winning run? We wrap up discussing how we see the match going and give our predictions before testing JK and Mark's knowledge in 'They Played for Both' Hosted on Acast. 'FUBAR' Chelsea FanCast #1089

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd reflect on a disappointing defeat away to Everton. In part one although Chelsea did alright, better than Utd and Newcastle with plenty of possession and attacks and shots on goal they didn’t really look like scoring and looked typically vulnerable in defence. The folly of not having a decent striker is exposed again. Is there a lack of quality in the side? Did Everton, a gnarly experienced, streetwise PL side just want it more? And to add injury to insult, James goes off again in what is becoming a tragedy. What's his future at the club?In part two, with 10 wins in the last 45 are we concerned by what is relegation form? The mood seems to be changing regarding Chelsea's recruitment team and the owners, so what happens next? Pochettino alludes to going to the transfer market to solve the problems – is this realistic? #219. Sportchefsleken

‘Brain Fog On the Tyne’ Chelsea FanCast #1085

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Marco Worrall to look back at a disappointing 4:1 defeat away to Newcastle on Saturday. We start proceedings with a tribute to former Chelsea player, Terry Venables, who sadly passed away at the age of 80 on Sunday.Atrocious defending and poor discipline cost us up at St. James' Park on Saturday, with three of the goals avoidable and many of the yellow cards. But is Silva past his sell by date or do we have short memories? Did we miss Moises bite in midfield? How much of an impact did the International Break have on a lacklustre and dozy performance? In part two, was Poch's criticism of the players justified and how much should he shoulder the blame? Jackson offered nothing again, how much do we need a new striker in January or do we pray that Nkunku is the bollocks? How much of Chelsea's malaise is down to the players, or Poch or Clearlake for not buying a striker and experienced players? How far off it are Chelsea – Europe? Mid-table? How long to put it right and how? And finally, how secure is Poch? Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

'Four Four...F*!?ing Hell!' Chelsea FanCast #1080

Stamford Chidge & Jonathan Kydd are joined by Mark Meehan to look back on a remarkable match against Man City on Sunday. In part one we discuss Chelsea's electric start almost scuppered by Antony Taylor's poor decision for the penalty and great comeback to lead 2:1 before the sucker punch either side of half-time. But Chelsea stuck at it, going toe to toe with City and goal for goal, before Ice Cold Palmer equalised with minutes remaining. Palmer, Sterling, Cucurella, Gallagher and James were outstanding and Sanchez made some great saves. Poch got his subs spot on, with Broja getting the foul that led to the last minute penalty. In part two we reflect on a brilliant week for Chelsea, arguably the best it's been since winning the FIFA Club World Cup in February 2022. It seems we've turned a corner and the team has evolved, showing bravery, confidence, resilience and playing front foot attacking football and breaking free of the turgid tippy tappy sideways borefest of recent years. A real bond seems to be growing between players and manager and indeed the crowd who were the loudest we've heard for years and from all four stands. While there will inevitably be some downs to come, a bright future is emerging. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
