Burnley är en engelsk fotbollsklubb som grundades 1882. Klubben spelar för närvarande i Premier League, den högsta divisionen i engelsk fotboll. Inget annat engelskt herrlag har lyckats vinna fyra raka ligatitlar i den engelska högstaligan i fotboll, och Manchester City har nu vunnit sex av de sju senaste Premier League-säsongerna. Dramatisk slutomgång Men det blev en dramatisk sista omgång på söndagen. Förutsättningarna inför den avslutande omgången var klara. Om City slår West Ham, vinner de ligan. Om de i stället tappar poäng, samtidigt som Arsenal slår Everton hemma på Emirates Stadium, är det Londonlaget som får lyfta bucklan. Men när Rodri satte dit 3–1 till Manchester City efter en knapp timmes spel blev det hela mindre dramatiskt på nytt. West Ham lyckades dock aldrig svara, Manchester City vann med 3–1 och kan titulera sig mästare i Premier League säsongen 2023–24. Vi har skrivit in oss i historieböckerna. Bortamatchen mot Burnley var redan så gott som avgjord när domaren, vid ställningen 3–0 till Newcastle i den 52:a minuten, pekade på straffpunkten. Alexander Isak klev fram men fick se sin straff räddas av Arijanet Muric. Blott tre minuter senare kom revanschen. Isak frispelades i straffområdet av Jacob Murphy och var klinisk i sitt avslut från nära håll. Fullträffen var den svenske landslagsanfallarens 20:e mål i Premier League den här säsongen. I och med det ligger han delad tvåa i skytteligan, tillsammans med Chelseas Cole Palmer. Bara Manchester Citys Erling Braut Haaland har gjort fler mål (21). 24-årige Isak har sedan tidigare gått förbi Zlatan Ibrahimovic som den svensk som har gjort flest mål under en Premier League-säsong. Ibrahimovic gjorde 17 mål för Manchester United säsongen 2016–17. Newcastle vann matchen mot Burnley med 4–1. Isak blev utbytt i den 77:e minuten och lagkamraten Emil Krafth spelade hela matchen. Hjalmar Ekdal blev inbytt till den andra halvleken för Burnley.
